The COVID pandemic has decreased the level of air pollution in the air. Air pollution is a primary concern nowadays, and the Impacts of Air Pollution (ผลกระทบมลพิษทางอากาศ; which is the term in Thai) is also dangerous. If these substances reach concentration, they cause undesirable health and economic effects. The gasses that cause air pollution are given below:
Nitrogen Oxide
Nitrogen oxide is generally a reaction of Nitrogen and oxygen produced when high-temperature combustion occurs. The release of Nitrogen Oxide is commonly found in areas with heavy traffic, such as in larger cities. The survival of humans can be dangerous, with a lot of nitrogen oxide in the air. Nitrogen oxide can cause headaches and breathing problems. And irritation in the eyes. Apart from humans, it can cause damage to animals and plants.
VOC
VOC or Volatile Organic chemicals create high vapour even at ordinary room temperature. Nowadays, one of the biggest environmental challenges faced is VOC emission. The global warming due to VOC is 12 times higher than that caused by CO2. VOC can be generated in both ways, such as human-made and can result if naturally occurring. Some important gases that include VOC are chlorofluorocarbons, hydrocarbons, etc.
Sulfur Dioxide
Sulphur dioxide has a pungent, irritating smell that is considered as highly reactive. The sulphur dioxide is caused by combustion at power plants and other industrial facilities. There is sulphur dioxide in the air from the coal burning and oil at the power plants. Sometimes, the sulphur dioxide can be released due to volcanic eruptions. The sulphur dioxide is a colourless gas and often comes with pungent gas and is dissolved in water very quickly.
Acrolein
Acrolein is generally a colourless yellow liquid that comes with a disagreeable colour. The acrolein gets dissolved quickly and changes according to water vapour. Acrolein can also be burnt easily and enter the air when the trees, tobacco, other plants and gasoline get burnt. The acrolein can also be used as a pesticide for controlling algae, bacteria and weeds.
Conclusion
These all are the gasses that cause air pollution. The other gases that cause air pollution are synthetic vitreous, carbon disulphide, benzene, particulate matter, ozone, etc. Due to the Impacts of Air Pollution air pollution, diseases like asthma have increased in recent times.
